The User Manager in cPanel is a friendly and easy to use interface, which allows you to add, edit and delete user access to your domain. Based on the preferences and package deals agreed upon with your hosting provider, you can set up many important features for your users.

Add Subaccount

Adding a subaccount or user is fairly easy. Simply follow these steps:

1. Log in to your cPanel account

2. Go to the Preferences section and click on the User Manager.

Note: You can also type in the search bar User Manager for a quicker find.

3. Click on Add User

4. Type in the user’s Full Name, desired Username and Email Address.

Note: Make sure to select the appropriate domain if you manage more than one. Equally important is to provide a valid Email address, so that the subaccount user can use the Reset Password feature.

5. Enter and confirm a new password or use the Password Generator.

Note: choose a strong password, based on the strength meter underneath the password box.

6. Select the desired Services you would like to add to the specified user. You can either choose to offer Email, FTP or Web Disk services. If your Web Disk services are missing from the Services section, contact your hosting provider.

7. Click on Create or Create and Add Another User and you’re done. We will cover each of these in the Services section below.

Edit Subaccount

From the main User Manager page, you can edit each added subaccount user. You may notice that the main cPanel account name and logs account are not editable from this interface.

Click on Edit and you will land on to the exact page you visited when you’ve created the subaccount. However, you will no longer be able to change the Username and Domain. All other features are still editable.

Delete Subaccount

If you want to delete a Subaccount, simply click on Delete from the User Manager page. The link is right next to the Change Password button. You just need to confirm your selection and you’re done.

Services

cPanel domain owners can assign three types of services for their associated user Subaccounts.

Email

This feature activates the Subaccount’s Email address. You can access this private Email by navigating to https://yourdomain.com/webmail.

The only feature you can modify from this interface is the Email Quota. This can either be Unrestricted or fixed to a certain amount (up to 4096 TB).

FTP

The File Transfer Protocol associated with each subaccount allows users to manage the website’s files. In order for this service to be active, your hosting provider needs to have enabled it.

The two features available are Quota and Home Directory. The quota determines the amount of disk space the subaccount user may use. This can either be set to a fixed amount or unrestricted.

The Home directory is the direct path to the subaccount’s home directory. It is set by default public_html/username.

Web Disk

This feature enables subaccount users to manage files through different third party applications incorporated on iOS and Android.

As with the FTP, the web disk features a Home Directory path which is by default the same root directory as for FTP. You can change this in case you would like to associate a different home directory for web disk usage.

Directly underneath the Home Directory box, you will see the Permissions section. Here you can choose to attribute Read-Write or Read-Only privileges to the subaccount user.

Finally, after you’re done with setting up the subaccount user, click on Save and check if everything works as expected.
