To connect your domain to another web host, contact the web host to determine which of the following actions you need to take:
- Add custom resource records to one or more values provided by your web host.
- Add your domain’s name servers to values provided by your web host.
Add custom resource records
With the information gathered from your web host, add custom resource records (either A or CNAME record types).
1. Sign in to Google Domains.
2. Select the name of your domain.
3. In the top left, click Menu and then DNS.
4. Under “Custom resource records,” set the custom resource record type your web host requires:
- Add an A record:
- In the first field, enter “@” or the required subdomain.
- From the menu, select A.
- In the data field, enter the IP address or addresses from your web host. To add more fields, click Add.
- Click Add.
- Add a CNAME record:
- In the first field, enter www or the required subdomain.
- From the menu, select CNAME.
- In the data field, enter the domain name from your web host.
- Click Add.
Add custom domain DNS name servers
Depending on your location, DNS changes may take up to 48 hours to take effect across the entire internet.
1. Sign in to Google Domains.
2. Select the name of your domain.
3. In the top left, click Menu and then DNS.
4. Under “Name servers,” choose Use custom name servers.
5. Enter the name server values you got from your web host. To add extra fields, click Add.
6. Click Save.
