Linux Mint 20, code-named “Ulyana” is the latest stable release of Ubuntu based desktop Linux operating system. It is supported by 3 desktop editions namely Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce. It is a long term release supported until 2025. Linux Mint 20 is 64 bit only.Users who run on existing 32 bit built cannot upgrade to Linux Mint 20.

STEPS TO INSTALL:
1] Post downloading the Linux Mint 20 iso image, either burn the image to a DVD or create a bootable USB stick using Universal USB installer [BIOS compatible] or Rufus [UEFI compatible]
2] Insert the DVD or bootable device.. Restart the machine and allow the BIOS/UEFI to boot up from the DVD/ USB by pressing function key [usually F2, F10 or F12] depending upon the vendor to access the boot device menu.
Once the computer boots up, you ll see the Linux Mint 20 GRUB welcome screen. Select " Start Linux Mint" and click on Enter.
3] After Linux Mint loads, click the Install Linux Mint icon.4] After the installer welcome page loads, select the preferred installation language.Then click on Continue.
5] Choose your keyboard layout and click on Continue.
6] Choose the option to install media codes, mandate to support some video formats and to properly access some websites. Then click on Continue.
7] Then choose the installation type.Consider an instance of installing Linux Mint on non-partitioned hard drive void of an existing operating system. Select Something else from the two available options. Then click Continue.
8] Click on the non-partitioned storage device from the list of available storage devices.Then click on New Partition Table. Note that the installer will automatically select the device on which the boot-loader will be installed.
9] A pop up window will appear, click on Continue to create an empty partition table on the device.
10] A free space equal to the space of the hard drive will be created by the installer. Double click on the free space to create a partition.
11] To create root partition [ it stores base system files], enter the size of the new partition (out of the total free space). Select the file system type to "EXT4 journaling file system". Mount point should be set to / from the drop down list. Click on ok.
12] Root partition will now appear in the list of partitions.
13] To create a swap partition from the free space, double click on the free space.
14] Pop up window will appear.Enter the swap partition size and set the Use as to swap area.
15] Two partitions namely root and swap will be created. Click on "Install Now" button. Installer will give a prompt to accept the changes in the hard disk partition layout.Click on continue to proceed.
16] Select your location and click on continue
17] Enter user details for account creation.
18] Upon successfully following the above procedures, base system files and packages will start installing..
19] Once the base system installation gets complete, restart the system.
20] Remove the installation media after restart. Select Linux Mint at the GRUB menu and allow it load
21] At the login interface, enter account password to log in. Click on Enter
22] After login, welcome message will appear.
